Happy Father's Day

Mom and Dad 1945
My dad was a quiet man, not demonstrative about his feelings. I didn't even know he loved me until just before he died. He told me. But his generation didn't feel a need to say, "I love you." Daddy proved his love by providing a home, food and clothes for us. That was his way of showing his love.

I have a special memory of Daddy I'd like to share with you. It was in 1961, a voting year like this one. Back then the TV coverage wasn't as great as it is today. John F. Kennedy spoke at a whistle stop in Kansas City, Missouri, where we lived and Daddy took me. After all these years, I remember how special that made me feel.

Daddy also taught me to drive. The car was a 1959 Chevy with a stick shift transmission. The lessons ended when I made my dad sea sick, besides impatient. Somehow we got through it together. Today I drive a Toyota Corolla with an automatic transmission and my passengers don't complain. . .too much.

Daddy served in the United States Air Force and took his family halfway around the world. Although I attended thirteen schools before entering high school, I was a stronger student because of it.

I wish I could say to Daddy, "Thanks for the Memories! I love you and Happy Father's Day." I thought of him this week. Thursday (Flag Day) would have been his 92nd birthday. Since I can't say Happy Birthday or Happy Father's Day to Daddy, I will extend my wishes to all the wonderful fathers who read my blog. And if you are reading this, I hope you know it's okay to say "I love you." You'll feel better and so will your kids. Happy Father's Day!

Heavenly Father, Happy Fathers Day! I pray for all the fathers reading my blog. Strengthen and encourage them to be the best they can be for You and their families. Amen.

I loved this, Sue. It's good for us to remember the things our fathers did for us, and wear those memories around us like a warm coat. God bless, my sister.

just wanted you to know that I got a spam email from you saying you were stuck in Spain and needed money--someone must have spammed your email and used your name etc. Sorry!
