God Remembers the Love You Have Shown

Do you ever get so busy, you ask yourself if anything you do matters? Sometimes I hear that wicked voice inside me, "Why don't you give it up. It's not that important." Whether I'm going to Bible study, helping my husband or kids, teaching a class, leading a workshop or writing a story, it seems important at the time. However, I receive little recognition or praise for what I do, and I feel like a hamster on a wheel that never stops turning.

Today I went to Bible study and this verse jumped out at me. "God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them." Hebrews 6:10 NIV. So, I asked myself again, is Bible study important? The answer came through loud and clear, "Yes." Today I needed encouragement. Next time someone else might need a listening ear or a prayer. Maybe something we read or hear spoken from a sister in Christ is just what we need for that day. For sure, we can't inspire or help anyone if we stay at home. But that's where I like to stay--where it's comfortable and safe. Do you feel that way too?

The words, "He will not forget your work and the love you have shown," remind me of Nehemiah. He was a fearless leader on a huge restoration project, but he took time to write down the names of the nobodies who supported his work in Jerusalem. Those names are written in the book of Nehemiah and most of those people never became famous. Yet their gifts were a necessary part of God's plan. God still uses people who are willing to serve without concern about getting the glory.

Application
Are you willing to give a helping hand or word of encouragement? You have a place in building God's kingdom that is only yours. No one else will do it for you.

Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank you for loving us and thank you for remembering our gifts of love. Amen.
