Graduation Honor

John and I attended Commencement Exercises for the Class of 2007 where our granddaughter, Loren Soukup, graduated from Empire College School of Law, summa cum laude. Congratulations Loren!

What an inspiration! Now I want to encourage our other grandchildren to study hard in school to accomplish their goals and make their dreams come true. Their great education and honors would open doors of opportunity for them, and they would not have to struggle as I did. Yet I know power and wealth can be a big temptation. Working for more money takes little ambition, and it can put people in an endless life cycle where nothing satisfies.

King Solomon had it all. Never before or since has there been a man of more riches and respect. Yet he wrote in Ecclesiastes that it was all meaningless, a chasing after the wind, without the knowledge of God. Because of His love for God, He used his wisdom, power and riches to build the Temple in the City of David, a place where his people could come and worship God.

People who use their education, gifts, and talents to help others will find peace, purpose and fulfillment. During Loren’s internship she began working with children in elementary schools in Sonoma County, California. After she takes the California Bar Exam, she has a position with a law firm where she will be an advocate for children’s rights.

While I will encourage children to study hard to follow in similar footsteps, I want them to do it for the right reasons, and I want to teach them a lifestyle of helping others and living their lives to please God.
